Last night I viewed a pre-screening of The Joneses starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny. Tomorrow, Friday, this movie opens in all major San Diego theatres and my advice is to see it. This is a fun, fabulous and interesting film depicting the ever scary and creepy conspicuous consumption and the (underground) marketing behind it.
I must say, congrats on the casting of Demi Moore. I can’t imagine another woman playing that role and it was nice to see her starring in a movie that people will actually see. (Though, I did enjoy Flawless in 2007– You have no idea what I am talking about do you? It’s okay, I don’t think anyone does.)
Now the topic you have been waiting for – fashion! The costume designer behind The Joneses, Renee Ehrlich, is also the woman behind two of my favorite fashion movies: Addicted To Love and Chocolat. So, of course Amber Heard and Demi Moore are looking pretty fabulous as constant fashion Ads. On that AD note, YSL gets two verbal shout outs by Ms. Moore with both a purse and a leopard dress – the purse I don’t care for, but that dress! Love. When I went looking for the dress in YSL's collections, I couldn't find it, but saw something similar on Jennifer Lopez by Monique Lhuillier. (Funny - Lopez wears this dress to the The Back Up Plan Premiere - which is a movie I will be reviewing next week.)
Throughout the movie, Demi Moore looks appropriately divine for her character’s lifestyle: a long cardigan, lots o’ designer jeans, sexy dresses and FABULOUS necklaces. Amber Heard playing Jenn has an adorable style for any twenty something in San Diego let alone a teenager. Loving the brilliant blue trench she sports when her lover denies her and her pairing of boots with shorts is both fashionable and sexy. The perfect styling for a spring season in SD.
All and all, the costume designer Renee Ehrlich Kalfus did an excellent job on The Joneses; although, I am sure the product placement wars were certainly apart of her design process.
