I was raised poor and frugal just stuck with me. So, when I hear Rodarte is designing for Target I am fist pumping happy about affordable fabulosity, but when I saw the line my fist went still. It doesn't look good. Beyond the horrendous-nineties styling, most of it looks like bad thrift shopping meets Hot Topic.
You know I can always make something work though, so I looked past the dated looks and picked out some items worthy of your closet:
The cream cardigan to the far left, if taken away from this cruddy outfit, will make a chic addition to your wardrobe. I love the lean look, the sleeves, the texture, the pockets- everything. The striped shirt and yellow vest might also be good items too, but I will have to check out the fit and see the fabric.
I am not a fan of the denim jacket and that is the worse use of animal print I have seen in some time (and that is saying something - I love animal prints!). However, I am into the high-waist tights with the stiff bow. I can picture Sarah Jessica Parker's notorious character Carrie Bradshaw sporting these with a midriff top - which something I usually hate, but if you can do it right (which next to no one can), midriff baring can be stylishly fun. I know I would play with it a little more if I had the stomach.
I am sticking to my guns about the cardigan and the tights, but paired like that with only undergarments is unrealistic. The rest of the items in this photo would never catch my eye.
